Sports Retailer Generates over $290,000 in Net Revenue Using Digital Advertising
Alex Schupp • June 25, 2021
When we started working with SportsObsession.com, they already had an eCommerce website.
But it only received about $1,000 in annual sales.
After building and launching a new site during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Denver Crowd developed Sports Obsession's social media accounts and national audience from scratch.
Denver Crowd combined a carefully-crafted website with a Google Shopping Ad spend of $17,000 Facebook and Instagram ad spend of $10,000 to generate over $319,000 in revenue over the last 365 days.
Stepping Up To The Plate (The Challenge)
Sports Obsession's main source of revenue was its four brick-and-mortar stores on the east coast of the US.
When COVID-19 shut down in-person shopping in much of the country, their foot traffic stopped completely.
Since mall traffic generated 95% of their business in the past, Sports Obsession was completely unknown and untrusted as a national brand carrying officially-licensed sports memorabilia.
They had absolutely no national digital presence whatsoever.
Taking A Swing (The Solution)
As our design team worked to build an eCommerce site featuring 15,000+ inventory products, our social media team went to work building up a nationally-recognized brand.
Reaching over 250,000 sports fans over 1,000,000 times on Facebook and Instagram, Sports Obsession Online built up its reputation as a trusted, knowledgable expert in the Sports Memorabilia industry.
When our eCommerce website launched, we paired Google Shopping Ads, social media advertising and an aggressive retargeting campaign to bring in and keep new customers.
Social Advertising
Goals for our social media advertising campaigns included brand awareness, website clicks, store catalogue purchases, page "likes" and post engagement.
An important part of managing any online brand is keeping an active social media presence. So we made sure to stay active on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter with plenty of fun and thoughtful content to keep fans engaged.
Google Shopping Ads
Our Google Shopping Ads and Google Free Listings campaign received over 6 million views and generated over $125,000 in revenue over the last year for an actual spend of just under $17,000.
The campaign mostly targeted users on all devices, but mobile devices resulted in the lowest cost per click (CPC) and highest amount of conversions.

Making Contact (The Results)
Sports Obsession Online's Facebook page has over 5,000 "likes" from US-based sports fans.
Their Instagram page has over 2,000 followers.
Their new eCommerce website has had over 230,000 visits over the past year.
In only a year from building the website and online brand from scratch, we have generated over $319,000 in sales from $27,000 in actual ad spend.
Knocking It Out of the Park!
After our first month generating $30,000 in revenue, Sports Obsession's owner admitted he had a goal of $30,000 in sales over the first year.
We think it's safe to say we knocked it out of the park on this one! Want to learn more? Here's a video from a couple months into our launch:

Search engine optimization is often misunderstood. Many businesses assume that adding a few keywords to their homepage or publishing an occasional blog post is enough to improve rankings. When traffic does not increase, they conclude that SEO simply does not work for their industry. In reality, most SEO challenges stem from structural issues, inconsistent strategy, or incomplete implementation rather than a lack of opportunity. If your SEO efforts are not producing results, the solution is rarely more content alone. It starts with addressing the foundation.

When businesses think about redesigning their website, the first word that usually comes to mind is “refresh.” New colors. Updated fonts. Modern layout. But a high-performing website redesign is not about aesthetics. It is about performance. A strong website should generate leads, drive sales, improve search visibility, simplify content management, and clearly communicate your brand. If it only looks better but does not function better, it is not a redesign. It is decoration.

You’re getting traffic. People are clicking your ads. They’re finding you on Google. They’re even browsing your pages. But the leads? The calls? The form submissions? Crickets. If your website isn’t converting, the problem usually isn’t traffic. It’s what happens after someone lands on your site. Here’s where to start.

If your website looks good but isn’t bringing in leads, you are not alone. This is one of the most common frustrations we hear from business owners. The site isn’t “bad.” It loads, it functions, and it might even get traffic. But it still feels like it’s underperforming. The truth is, your website probably isn’t broken. It just isn’t working hard enough. A strong website does more than exist online. It guides visitors, tells a clear story, builds trust, and motivates action. When one of those pieces is missing, results stall.

If your website feels outdated, you are probably not imagining it. Design standards, user expectations, and search engine requirements evolve quickly, and what worked even a few years ago may now be holding your business back. Your website is often the first impression customers have of your brand. When it feels slow, cluttered, or difficult to use, visitors notice and often leave before taking action. Below are some of the most common reasons websites start to feel outdated, and what modern websites do differently.
