Denver’s iconic Mercury Cafe is entering a new chapter as it transitions into The Pearl, a fresh concept led by the passionate owners of the beloved lesbian speakeasy Pearl Divers. This shift marks not only a change in name but also an opportunity to continue the legacy of inclusivity and community that the Mercury has fostered for over 50 years.

After announcing the search for new tenants last August, Mercury Cafe owner Danny Newman has officially leased the historic space at 2199 California Street to Dom Garcia and Ashlee Cassity. Known for creating vibrant, inclusive spaces, Garcia and Cassity are committed to revitalizing the venue while respecting its rich cultural history.
Pearl Divers, previously located within Your Mom's House on East 13th Avenue, earned a reputation as a welcoming haven for Denver’s LGBTQIA+ community. Now, with The Pearl, they plan to amplify that spirit on a larger scale, ensuring the space remains a beacon of creativity, celebration, and connection.
In a heartfelt statement on social media, the owners of The Pearl expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to breathe new life into the cherished space. While the Mercury Cafe name will not carry on, its spirit of community engagement and artistic expression will undoubtedly live on.
“Our goal is not to revive the location, but to make it thrive in a way that is responsible and ethically aligned with our values,” they shared.
At Crowd Digital Marketing, we celebrate stories like this that highlight the strength and resilience of Denver's local businesses. We believe in amplifying voices that foster inclusive environments and are proud to support businesses that make a positive impact.
Stay tuned for updates on The Pearl’s opening and upcoming events. Whether you’re a longtime patron of the Mercury Cafe or a newcomer eager to experience this revitalized space, there’s no doubt The Pearl will continue to be a cherished part of Denver's vibrant cultural landscape.
